Kappa Kappa Psi Nationally
In the years that followed World War I, college bands across the nation searched for a motivating force that would create a greater interest in band music. They sought for good will, fellowship, and an understanding among bands and their members, and to recognize the value of dedicated leadership. Oklahoma A & M director (Oklahoma State University (OSU)), Bohumil Makovsky, gathered 9 men, William A. Scroggs, A. Frank Martin, Raymond D. Shannon, Clyde Haston, Clayton Soule, Carl Stevens, William Coppedge, Dick Hurst, Asher Hendrickson, and Iron H. Nelson and created a local club. This evolved to a corporation that petitioned the Oklahoma Corporation Commission for a charter. The charter was granted on November 27th, 1919. Thus, Kappa Kappa Psi, Honorary Fraternity for College Bandsmen was born starting with the Alpha chapter at OSU. Since 1919, Kappa Kappa Psi has flourished and today, there are 329 chapters of which 217 are active. Iota Phi is the 237th chapter to be installed.
